If you are reading this we are sure you don't need persuading to visit York. However you will probably appreciate some tips and information to help you make the most of your stay.
Before we start let us say that we believe the best attraction and museum in York is the city itself. Just walk around the city centre at your own pace and looking up above ground floor level will take you from the 21st century shop fronts back to medieval times. We are lucky being only a five minute walk from York Minster and the historic city centre.
There are the iconic attractions of which you will undoubtedly have heard and to some of which we have provided links. But we would urge you to venture off the standard tourist trail and we hope the pointers below will be of help. To make it simple, in the links below provided courtesy of Visit York, we have set out an overview of what to see and do and pointed you towards some particularly fascinating gems.
To Start and whatever you are looking for, if it is your first time in York, we always suggest that in order to gain an overview and to acquaint yourself with the city the first thing you should do is take an open top bus tour. You can pick this up in Exhibition Square just 300 yards away by the old city gate at Bootham Bar.
Then take the free guided walk also from Exhibition Square. They start at 10.15 or 2.15 and last about two hours.
